The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State, Hon. Olaniyi Ogungbuji, has welcomed the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria which nullified the factional national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Reacting to the ruling, Ogungbuji described the verdict as a victory for the rule of law and internal democracy within the party.
He said the decision has finally put to rest the protracted legal battle arising from the convention organised by the faction led by Tanimu Turaki, which the court held was conducted in violation of subsisting court orders.
“The Supreme Court has spoken clearly. This judgment affirms our long-held position that no individual or group is bigger than the party or the law,” Ogungbuji said.
He urged aggrieved members and those who had aligned with the factional leadership to sheath their swords and return fully to the party fold in the interest of unity and progress.
“This is the time for reconciliation. I call on all PDP members in Ondo State and across the country to close ranks, come back home, and work together to rebuild and reposition our party ahead of future elections,” he added.
Ogungbuji expressed optimism that the judgment would strengthen the party’s internal cohesion and enhance preparations toward the 2027 general elections, stressing that Ondo State PDP remains committed to a united and credible opposition.
The Supreme Court, in a split decision, upheld earlier rulings of lower courts which restrained the faction from holding the Ibadan convention, declaring its outcome null and void for violating existing judicial orders.
