Senate: Natasha Completes Six-Month Suspension

Olayiwola Matthew

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, is set to return to the Senate after completing her six-month suspension.

The suspension, which began on March 6, 2025, was due to alleged breaches of Senate rules, but Akpoti-Uduaghan claims it was politically motivated and triggered by her petition accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension sparked weeks of tension, with the senator consistently dismissing the sanction as unjustified. In July, she stormed the National Assembly complex with her lawyers, brandishing a court judgment she claimed ordered her recall.

With the suspension now expired, attention has shifted to how Akpoti-Uduaghan’s re-entry into the chamber will play out amid lingering friction with the Senate leadership.

The senator’s return could potentially impact the dynamics within the Senate, particularly in light of her ongoing disputes with Akpabio.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s return to the Senate may lead to further controversy, given the senator’s history of clashes with the Senate leadership. The outcome of her return remains to be seen, but it is likely to have significant implications for the Senate’s operations and the senator’s future.
