Natasha Osawaru, wife of Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has emerged as the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency, was named to the position during Monday’s plenary following a reshuffling of the Assembly’s principal leadership positions.
Her emergence comes months after she defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in May 2026.
A statement issued by her Media and Strategic Communications Directorate and shared on her Facebook page described the development as a “landmark” reshuffle, saying her elevation reflected the confidence of lawmakers and constituents in her leadership.
Osawaru previously served as Deputy Majority Leader and has focused on grassroots development, parliamentary debates, youth and women empowerment during her time in the Assembly.
Reacting to her new role, Osawaru thanked the Assembly leadership, her colleagues and the people of Egor, describing the position as a responsibility rather than a title.
“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust. Our democracy thrives on rigorous debate, accountability, and the courage to advocate for the ordinary citizen without compromise.
“As Minority Leader, my commitment to the development of Edo State, the progress of our great party, the NDC, and the prosperity of the good people of Egor remains absolute,” she said.
Her emergence places Osawaru in one of the Assembly’s key opposition leadership positions as lawmakers continue to realign across party caucuses
