Some senators from the South-East have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to set free the detained leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Leading other senators to the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN in a closed door meeting,
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe appealed for the release of the IPO leader.
Senator Abaribe, who addressed newsmen after the meeting, said the socio-economic and political activities in the South East would continue to suffer until Nnamdi Kanu is released.
He said he and other South-East senators were at the AGF’s office to deliver a letter to him for onward delivery to President Tinubu.
The senator disclosed that the letter was an appeal to the President to set free the IPOB leader.
He revealed that he had met with Kanu at this Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja and had agreed to abide by any condition offered him for his release.
Meanwhile, Senator Abaribe noted that the peaceful agitation championed by Nnamdi Kanu had been hijacked by unscrupulous elements and criminals who killed innocent people, security operatives among others.
He expressed confidence that insecurity in the South-East would be doused whenever Kanu is released.
Appealing to the AGF to convey their message to the President, the senators also urged him to use his position to withdraw the charges filed against Kanu by the Federal Government.
According to Abaribe, virtually all political, religious leaders and stakeholders in the South-East have all agreed and called for Nnamdi Kanu’s release for peace to reign in the region.
