Nollywood Actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ Dies After Cancer Battle

Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died after battling cancer.

The actor’s death was announced on Sunday by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during an Instagram live session.

Hassan’s death came only days after his family disclosed that the respected actor was battling stage-four cancer, triggering widespread concern and calls for support for his treatment.

The development has sent shock waves across the Nigerian film industry, where Ogogo was widely regarded as one of the prominent figures who helped shape the Yoruba-language movie industry.

Before his death, efforts had reportedly been made to secure medical treatment for the actor, with the Ogun State All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Adeola Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, said to have offered financial assistance towards his treatment.

The disclosure of his illness had generated an outpouring of concern from colleagues, fans and well-wishers, with many expressing hope for his recovery.

Ogogo, who built a reputation through decades of acting in Yoruba-language films, was known for his versatility and strong screen presence.

His death marks another loss for the Nigerian entertainment industry, coming at a time when his fans and colleagues were rallying support for his recovery.

The family is expected to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding his death and funeral arrangements.
