Ramadan, Lent: Kwara Gov Calls For Peace, Collective Action

Fatimah Otunsanya

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has extended warm greetings to Muslim and Christian faithful on the commencement of the holy fasting seasons.

AbdulRazaq urged them to use the period for prayers and actions that promote peace and improved well-being for the people.

Recall that the Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III has declared Wednesday, February 18, 2026, as the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The Sultan, the spiritual leader of Muslims in Nigeria and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, said the crescent moon was sighted in several parts of the country on Tuesday, the 29th day of Sha’aban.

In a message shared via his social media platforms and sighted by NigeriaTodayTimes on Wednesday, the governor congratulated adherents of both faiths for witnessing the sacred seasons, describing the coincidence of the two observances as significant.

He said, “I extend special greetings to the Muslim and Christian communities on the dawn of Ramadan and Lent fasting seasons.”

The governor noted that the simultaneous commencement of the two periods underscores the need for unity and collective responsibility among citizens, regardless of religious differences.
