Police Invite Activist JustAdetoun Over Comment On Ambulance Services In Ogun State

Olayiwola Matthew

The Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed that it has invited social welfare activist and commentator Adetoun Onajobi, also known as Just Adetoun, over her recent outburst against Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this to on Wednesday.

Babaseyi said, “Yes, she has been invited based on a petition against her, and she is coming as soon as practicable to aid investigation into the petition.”

Adetoun, an Ogun State-born activist, recently expressed her anger in a series of videos posted on her social media handles, where she hurled abusive words at the governor over his performance in office.

The attacks followed the accident involving Nigerian-born British professional boxer Anthony Joshua on Monday, December 29.

Recall the former heavyweight champion lost two friends and trainers when their SUV rammed into a stationary truck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The activist, who hails from Ilisan Remo in the same Ikenne Local Government Area as Governor Abiodun, alleged that Joshua and his friends were abandoned by the governor and claimed that the state had no single functional ambulance.

She said the governor preferred spending public funds on parties rather than addressing urgent public needs.

Just Adetoun also alleged that, though it was difficult for the governor to procure a working ambulance for the state, he could still afford to purchase SUVs for local government chairmen in December 2025.

She said, “The President said that he has spoken to Anthony Joshua and his mother, but Dapo Abiodun is in Ghana. He doesn’t know more than going about partying to spend the state funds. He has refused to get a single ambulance for the state, yet he recently purchased 20 SUVs for the local government chairmen whereas the state has no single ambulance…”

Meanwhile, Ogun State-based lawyer Owolabi Olusegun has offered to defend Just Adetoun pro bono over her police invitation.

Olusegun condemned the state government for allegedly harassing or intimidating an individual trying to exercise her fundamentalhuman right to hold the government accountable.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, he said, “As a legal practitioner and a concerned stakeholder in the Ogun State project, I find the use of state security apparatus to silence critics—rather than addressing the substance of their grievances—deeply troubling.”

He added that governance is a contract with the people and that citizens in a thriving democracy have the right to demand accountability.

Olusegun further explained that when citizens raise concerns about governance, the appropriate response is for the government to correct deficiencies or provide proof of improvement.

While offering his legal support, the lawyer said, “I, Owolabi K. Oluwasegun, Esq., hereby publicly declare my full support for Just Adetoun. I am offering my pro bono legal services to ensure her fundamental rights are protected and to challenge any attempt to suppress free speech through intimidation. We must build a state where the government is big enough to listen and humble enough to serve.”
