Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp experience global outage

-Deborah Akinyosoye

Social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp are currently down for users worldwide.

Reports of outages are flooding in, with users unable to refresh feeds or send messages. Meta has yet to comment.

“Over 42,000 users of Meta’s Instagram and the company’s other social media apps are reporting outages right now,” DownDetector stated.

For Instagram users, according to DownDetector’s analysis, the most affected areas across the United States (US) are currently Chicago and New York, as revealed by a heat map of user-submitted complaints and reports collected by the site.

The analysis added that no fewer than 82,000 Facebook users are also complaining of outages, with issues reported across much of the Eastern and Pacific coasts.

“Approximately 11,000 WhatsApp users have also reported outages, mainly in New York and Los Angeles, since this trifecta of Meta-owned and operated services began experiencing problems at 12:46 pm Eastern (5:46 pm GMT),” it added.
