I’m Seeking Fourth Term To Consolidate Gains, Says Desmond Elliot

Actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot says his decision to seek a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly is driven by a desire to consolidate achievements and bring more benefits to his constituency.

Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency I, was first elected in 2015 under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and won re-election in 2019 and 2023.

In a statement posted on his X account on Monday, the 52-year-old confirmed he has picked up his nomination form to contest again under the APC, informing constituents, political associates, and stakeholders of his decision.

He said his renewed ambition is anchored on continuity and experience, adding that staying longer in office would strengthen the constituency’s influence.

“This step is born out of my continued commitment to serve, to consolidate the progress we have made together, and to advance our collective aspirations further,” he said.

Elliot also argued that returning to the House would give Surulere “ranking status,” which he said could attract greater attention and benefits.

He urged his supporters to remain calm and focused as the party prepares for its primaries, calling for unity and peaceful engagement throughout the process.

“Our strength has always been in our togetherness, and I am confident that the same spirit will see us through,” he added.

Meanwhile, some stakeholders have endorsed former aide to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, for the seat.

Odunuga-Bakare, who recently obtained her APC nomination form after stepping down as Special Adviser on Housing, said her ambition is rooted in “purposeful leadership and responsive representation.”

She described her campaign as people-centred, promising inclusive governance and improved welfare for residents of Surulere Constituency I.

According to her, the aspiration is driven by experience, grassroots engagement, and a commitment to amplify constituents’ voices.

“This journey is not mine alone—it belongs to every resident, every youth, every woman, every stakeholder who believes in a better Surulere,” she said.
