Gbenga Daniel Urges Ogun Govt to Stop Obstructing Federal Projects, Calls for Cooperation

Former Ogun State governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has appealed to the Ogun State Government to desist from frustrating the execution of federal constituency projects in his senatorial district.

Daniel made the call on Saturday during the Midterm Community Assessment Review Tour held in Erunwon, Ijebu North-East Local Government Area.

Expressing concern over what he described as the state’s opposition to the ongoing construction of the Paddy Arikawe Road in Sagamu—a project he facilitated—the senator urged the government to support rather than obstruct efforts aimed at improving citizens’ lives.

“My fundamental duty as a senator is lawmaking and facilitating the location of federal projects in our constituency,” Daniel said. “However, my job ends with the facilitation. Awarding contracts and executing projects are the responsibilities of federal agencies, often working with state agencies. What we expect from the state government is cooperation, not hostility. Petty politics must never be allowed to short-change our people.”

The former governor recalled that the Paddy Arikawe Road was first opened and tarred with drainage in 2004 during his tenure, but had since suffered neglect until its inclusion as a palliative measure under his constituency projects.

“The primary responsibility for that road lies with the local and state government. My message is simple: we need encouragement, not discouragement, to bring more development home,” he stressed.

Daniel explained that the review tour was designed to assess completed constituency projects and ensure that governance remains people-focused, transparent, and accountable.

He also reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027, referencing the launch of the BATOGD Movement as evidence of his commitment. The senator praised the president for bold reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidy, which he said had released more funds for state and local government development.

Commending the Federal Government’s takeover of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) as a federal institution, Daniel revealed that he had already submitted proposals for the creation of four satellite campuses within a 30km radius of the main campus at Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode.

“These include a Skill Acquisition Mini-Campus at Okelugbogun, conversion of GIPI (Oil Engineering Services) at Oni Waterside into a satellite campus, an Artificial Intelligence and Innovation Mini-Campus at Ilisan/Odogbolu, and a Health Sciences Mini-Campus at Ijebu-Ode,” Daniel said, calling on the state government to support the initiative.
