El-Rufai Remanded As Court Adjourns Bail Hearing To April 14

Olayiwola Matthew

A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has adjourned the hearing of the bail application filed by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to April 14, 2026.

The presiding judge, Rilwanu Aikawa, fixed the new date on Wednesday after listening to submissions from both the prosecution and defence teams.

El-Rufai was earlier arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on a 10-count charge bordering on the alleged conversion of public property and money laundering.

The former governor, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Following the proceedings, the court ordered that he be remanded in the custody of the ICPC pending the determination of his bail application on the adjourned date.

El-Rufai arrived at the court premises at about 9:00 a.m. in a black Hilux vehicle, accompanied by officials of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Dressed in a light brown traditional riga and cap, he appeared calm as he made his way into the courtroom.

Speaking with journalists after the session, one of his lawyers, Ubong Akpan, confirmed the adjournment, adding that the lead counsel in the defence team would later brief the media on further developments in the case.
