Zulum Set Aside N20bn For Infrastructure, Assisting Flood Victims.

Fixing damaged structures and assisting victims of flooding disaster in Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum has set aside N20billion for the projects.

He disclosed this on Saturday while assuring the people of the state that damaged infrastructure facilities would be fixed and those who were affected by the September 10, 2024 flood disaster would assisted.

The governor also inaugurated a committee to look into the immediate and remote causes of the collapse of Alau Dam.

It would be recalled that many parts of Maiduguri metropolitan council and environs were greatly affected by the flooding caused by the collapse of the dam.

Giving the breakdown of how the fund would be expended, Governor Zulum explained 50 percent of the fund would be spent on assisting victims of the disaster.

According to him, the N10 billion would be credited to the state’s relief account and the newly inaugurated committee would be in charge of the disbursement of the fund with involvement of security agencies and the anti-graft agencies, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) and ICPC.

The state Ministry of Works and Housing would expend the rest on fixing infrastructure facilities damaged by the flooding.

Governor Zulum said: “Let me use this opportunity to commend the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for all the support, from the quantum of food donated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.

“I equally appreciate individuals, state governments, corporate entities, INGOs, and NGOs for supporting Borno in its time of need.”

He, therefore, gave the 28-member committee led by Engr. Abba Garba, a former Managing Director of the Chad Basin Development Authority, four weeks to submit its report.
