In avoidance of serious disaster, Senator Ahmad Lawan has called on the Federal Government to take urgent proactive measures against looming flooding in the country.

He suggested that drainage system and embarkment should be put in right conditions to control erosion to avoid flooding.
The senator gave the advice while reacting to the weather forecast of NiMET over looming thunderstorms in the country in a couple of weeks time.
Senator Lawan said: “I commend the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), for commencing efforts to provide assistance to the victims.
“I urge both agencies to urgently provide additional relief materials such as food, shelter, clothing, and medical supplies, as well as support to the affected communities.”
The senator in separate visits donated N25 million to Nguru town, which was affeted by recent flooding.
He also donated N5m to displaced persons in Karasuwa Local Government Area in Yobe North Senatorial District..
According to a statement by Ezrel Tabiowo, Media Adviser to Senator Lawan, he said the former Senate President made the donations when he visited the scenes of the flooding disaster.
Senator Lawan, therefore, urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA); and Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) to, as a matter of urgency, address the immediate and long-term needs of those displaced by the flooding.
