The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council over the approval of Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project.

In a post via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, Sanwo-Olu described the move as a major milestone for transportation development in the state.

He wrote, “On behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, I express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council for the approval of Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project.”

He also noted that the project “is a significant milestone,” explaining that the Green Line will cover about 68 kilometres from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, with around 17 stations in key locations including Victoria Island, Ajah, and the Lekki corridor.

According to the governor, the rail system “will serve up to 500,000 passengers daily at inception with the capacity to increase to about one million over time.”

He added that the line, with the ability to move up to 35,000 passengers per hour in each direction, “will reduce travel time and relieve pressure on our road network.”

Emphasising its broader impact, the governor stated, “This project reflects our commitment to improving mobility, supporting economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for Lagosians.”

Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged federal support, noting, “We value the continued support of the Federal Government and remain focused on delivering a system that meets the needs of our people.”
