Police Arrest 3 Suspects Over Sex Worker’s Death In Brothel

Sam Philip

Three persons have been arrested in connection with the death of a sex worker in a brothel in Akure, Ondo State capital.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday at a brothel around Cathedral area of the state capital, Akure.
.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, the Manager of the brothel called the police around 10 am to lodge complaint that “there was a violent altercation between a sex worker and a male customer earlier that morning.”

He disclosed that the manager of the brothel reported to police that “the disagreement began when the sex worker reportedly complained of sudden weakness during an encounter and could no longer continue providing the agreed services.

“The customer became enraged, resulting in a heated verbal and physical confrontation.

“Despite attempts by me (the brothel manager) and others to calm the situation, the customer insisted on a refund of the sum of N15,000.

“The customer subsequently fled the premises only to return shortly after with a group of miscreants believed to be his associates, with the intent of forcibly retrieving the said amount.”

According to the CP, “It was this development – the arrival of the suspect with others to escalate the confrontation – that prompted the brothel manager to place a distress call to the police.

“A patrol team was immediately mobilized to the scene, arriving promptly and finding the suspect and his accomplices attempting to recover the money by force, while the victim’s condition continued to deteriorate.

“The police acted swiftly and professionally; while the victim was being rushed to a nearby hospital in the Lafe area, officers at the scene simultaneously effected the arrest of three suspects involved in the incident.

“The victim was later referred to the Police Hospital in Akure but was, unfortunately, declared dead on arrival by a medical officer. Her body has since been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy.

“Thanks to the timely intervention by the police, three suspects were arrested at the scene. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend two others who remain at large. Names of those involved are being withheld pending further investigation.”

The Commissioner of Police, therefore, directed that the case should be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough and discreet investigation.

He assured the people of the state that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure justice is served, imploring members of the public to provide any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.

The Commissioner of Police promised that upon conclusion of investigations, the suspects would be arraigned.
