Oyebamiji Seeks Ooni’s Blessings Ahead Of Osun Election

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has sought royal blessings from the Ooni of Ife ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election, pledging to uphold public trust and deliver good governance if elected.

Speaking during the visit on Monday, Oyebamiji said his ambition is anchored on service, accountability, and commitment to the development of Osun State.

“We are here to seek your royal blessings and prayers as we prepare to begin our campaign.

“I will not betray the trust of the people and will work tirelessly for the progress of Ife and Osun State at large,” he added.

He commended the Ooni for his efforts to promote Yoruba unity and preserve cultural heritage, describing Ile-Ife as a symbol of historical and spiritual significance.

Oyebamiji explained that his visit to the palace was in line with advice from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who encouraged him to seek traditional blessings before commencing his campaign activities.

“I informed Mr. President of my intention to visit your palace, and he strongly advised me to do so, stressing the importance of blessings from this ancient throne,” he said.

He added that Ile-Ife remains central to Yoruba history and leadership traditions, noting that past leaders have drawn inspiration from the ancient city.

In his response, the Ooni of Ife commended Oyebamiji for demonstrating humility and respect for traditional institutions, describing them as essential qualities of leadership.

He, however, urged politicians to promote unity and avoid actions capable of deepening divisions within the political space.

“An Oba belongs to all and must remain above politics. Unity is key, and grievances must be resolved through dialogue,” the monarch said.

The Ooni also stressed that leaders must justify the prayers and blessings they receive through good governance and selfless service.

“After receiving blessings, it is important to justify them with good deeds,” he added.

Oyebamiji was accompanied by his running mate, Kayode Adereti; Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal; and other party leaders.

The delegation was received by the Ooni alongside the Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi, and other traditional leaders who offered prayers for a peaceful and successful election season.
