Sam Philip

In line with the new Electoral Act, all political parties and other stakeholders participating in the November 16 off-circle gubernatorial election in Ondo State would be allowed to inspect the sensitive materials for the election before the election day.

The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this on Tuesday when he visited various local government INEC offices in the state.

He explained that candidates of all the participating political parties, observers, security agencies, media houses among others would be allowed to inspect the election sensitive materials.

Prof. Yakubu, who visited the INEC local government offices to see the level of preparedness of Commission for the poll, disclosed that the inspection of the materials would commence on Wednesday next week.

He explained that on Thursday next, the sensitive materials would moved to the 18 local government areas of the state.

Having moved round the INEC offices, he confidently said the Commission is fully ready for the November 16 gubernatorial election.

Prof. Yakuy said: “With 10 days to election, the level of preparedness is very impressive. Very rarely will you find the commission this prepared before election, that is why I’ve been going around local governments to see if they have everything they are supposed to have at this point.

“The only thing remaining is the sensitive materials which will arrive on Tuesday next week. On Wednesday, there will be inspection of the sensitive materials by all parties, candidates, observers, security agencies, media houses and personnel in the commission among others.

“On Thursday, we will commence the movement of the materials to local governments beginning with the farest to the nearest. There will be the same inspection in the Local Government before we move it to the RAC centre and on Saturday morning, election will commence.”
