Governor candidate of New Nigeria People’s Party(NNPP) in the November 16 gubernatorial election in Ondo State, Gbenga Edema has promised to provide realtime free education if elected governor of the state.
He made the promise at the flag-off of his campaign at Akure Town Hall premises on Wednesday.
Explaining how possible the programme is, Edema, who was a former member of the state House of Assembly, said there’s a standing rule in the state that 2 percent of every contract awarded by the government is set aside in the state coffers.
He said his administration would commence the implementation of free education from primary to tertiary institutions for the indigenes of the state in all state-owned schools.
The representative of Ondo State on the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC) also disclosed that he would establish Education Trust Fund to finance free education programme.
The National Chairman of the party, Dr. Ajuri Ahmed presented Edema to the people of the state as someone who could rescue them from the current economic hardship in the state.
He said: “If you want us to be come out of these problems of hunger, poor healthcare and high school fees, let us vote NNPP.”
Edema assured that he would exploit the agricultural chains to improve food security in the state.
