Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa; the Deji of Akureland; senators and other eminent personalities are expected at the 50th anniversary of Omoluorogbo Grammar School, Akure, as the institution prepares to celebrate the milestone with the commissioning of a new administrative block and the foundation-laying ceremony for a four-classroom block to be constructed by the Old Students’ Association.
The three-day golden jubilee celebration, scheduled for October 29 to 31, 2026, will also feature an interdenominational thanksgiving service, an alumni reunion, career mentorship, sporting activities and the launch of a ₦100 million legacy project to support the school’s infrastructure development.
The anniversary, tagged “Omoluorogbo Grammar School, Akure @ 50: 1976–2026,” has the theme “Celebrating Our Legacy, Shaping the Future,” and the motto “Five Decades of Excellence and Impact.”
Chairman of the OGSA 50th Anniversary Implementation and Planning Committee, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, said the celebration would honour the school’s achievements over five decades while mobilising support for its future development.
He described the ₦100 million Golden Jubilee Legacy Project as a major component of the anniversary and called on alumni, government institutions, corporate organisations, philanthropists, community leaders and friends of the school to support the initiative.
The programme will begin on Thursday, October 29, with an interdenominational thanksgiving service and a history and heritage session highlighting the school’s journey and achievements.
Friday’s activities will include an alumni reunion, career mentorship and the school’s inter-house sports competition. The grand finale on Saturday will feature goodwill messages, an anniversary lecture, cultural presentations, recognition of distinguished alumni and contributors, and the launch of the legacy project.
The anniversary lecture will be delivered by Dr. Alaba Mogaji, a senior lecturer at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, and an alumnus of the school. His lecture is expected to address the institution’s future and the challenges confronting education.
The planning committee said the anniversary would bring together alumni, government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, educationists, parents, students and other stakeholders to celebrate the school’s heritage and renew their commitment to its future.
