The Controller, Ogun 1 Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Idiroko, Mohammed Shuaibu, has called on the newly promoted officers of the agency to step up their fight against smuggling, all forms of economic sabotage and criminal acts that constitute threat to the security of nation’s border.
Shuaibu made the call while decorating 60 newly promoted officers of the command, with their new ranks at its Idiroko Command office.
Shuaibu enjoined the officers to see their promotion as a greater call to serve the nation and must therefore be more dedicated to upholding the core mandates of the NCS, which include; revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations.
and trade facilitation, all of which are critical to the economic growth and security of the nation.
Shuaibu said, “As you wear your new ranks today, remember that every stripe, badge, and insignia signify responsibility and leadership.
“It is not just a symbol of authority, but also a call to duty to serve Nigeria with integrity, courage, and selflessness.
“The expectations of the agency, the nation, and the public are now even higher. You are not just representatives of the Nigeria Customs Service; you are role models for your colleagues, subordinates and the communities we serve.
“Let your conduct reflect the core values of the service, integrity, diligence, and patriotism.
“Be exemplary leaders. Leadership is not about ranks alone; it is about influence, guidance, and the ability to inspire others to excel. Lead by example and be a source of motivation to your colleagues”.
Shuaibu said that the beneficiaries of the promotion exercise were not just handpicked, but were actually found worthy of the deserved elevation having proved to be highly dedicated, professional and highly industrious adding values to the operations of the Customs Service.
While congratulating the newly promoted officers, the Controller charged them to embrace continuous learning because promotion comes with new challenges, and that staying ahead requires the officers to equip themselves with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to excel in their new roles.
He appreciated the sacrifices of the command’s operatives saying that their collective efforts and teamwork have contributed to the success story recorded so far both in revenue generation and the onslaught against smugglers and other criminal acts in and around the country’s borders in the state.
