Oborevwori Lauds Delta Assembly’s Role In State’s Devt

By Awhawha Awhawha

Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has commended the State House of Assembly for its steadfast legislative contributions to the development of the state.

He made the remarks at a thanksgiving service marking the 2nd Anniversary of the 8th Assembly, held at Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Region 24, Unity Model Parish, Asaba, on Sunday.

Oborevwori thanked the Assembly for acknowledging divine guidance in its work, describing the thanksgiving as the most significant part of the anniversary.

“It is truly heartwarming to see you recognize the place of the divine in your affairs. Lawmakers must depend on God for wisdom and guidance,” he said.

The Governor praised the Assembly’s legislative output and commitment to good governance over the past two years.

He highlighted their role in shaping Delta’s development through bills, motions, and oversight duties.

“Your wisdom, oversight, and representation have strengthened our state and deepened democracy,” he noted.

Oborevwori emphasized the strong synergy between the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary, which he described as essential to impactful governance.

He said this collaboration had driven progress in education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and youth empowerment.

Addressing security concerns, Oborevwori said he recently convened a high-level meeting with lawmakers, service commanders, Local Government Council chairmen, and traditional rulers.

He said the meeting yielded meaningful resolutions and warned against sharing sensitive security information on social media.

“We are doing a lot behind the scenes that we don’t publicize. Security today requires discretion,” he added.

Oborevwori praised the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor and members of the 8th Assembly for their dedication and sued for continued integrity and selfless service.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to progress and called for unity in building a better Delta.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, expressed gratitude to God for the successful completion of the Assembly’s Second Session.

He called the day a moment of thanksgiving and reflection on the privilege of serving over five million Deltans.

Reviewing the Assembly’s work, Guwor said 16 bills were received in the Second Session, with seven passed. Combined with nine from the First Session, 15 were signed into law.

He noted that the House also considered motions and petitions, and collaborated with the Executive to ensure transparency and good governance.

Guwor thanked Governor Oborevwori, fellow lawmakers, constituents and Assembly staff, for their cooperation, and asked for prayers as they move into the Third Session of the 8th Assembly.

In his sermon, Pastor Olufemi Olumide of RCCG Region 34 emphasized the power of thanksgiving in honoring God and fulfilling spiritual vows.

He warned against pride and cited Nebuchadnezzar as a cautionary example of failing to acknowledge God.

“Thanksgiving is a spiritual medicine. It cleanses the soul from pride, false independence, and foolishness,” he said.

Making reference to Psalm 116:16-19, Pastor Olumide described thanksgiving as a divine command and a means of attracting restoration and divine favor.

The service was attended by former Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, Hon. Julius Pondi, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, former Speakers, APC Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, and other dignitaries.
