The Lagos State Government has announced temporary traffic adjustments across key parts of the state ahead of a series of project commissioning events scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the planned activities would necessitate partial road closures in affected areas to ensure safety and smooth coordination.
He urged motorists to plan ahead and consider alternative routes during the specified periods to avoid delays.
“These events require temporary road closures in specific areas to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of proceedings. Motorists are advised to plan their movement and avoid the affected corridors during the designated times,” Osiyemi said.
According to the commissioner, the first event will take place on Wednesday, April 8, with the commissioning of the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
He noted that traffic movement would be impacted around Opebi, Allen, Ikeja and Ojota, advising road users within those corridors to seek alternative routes.
“All motorists transiting this corridor during the specified hours should seek alternative routes to avoid congestion and ensure timely arrival at their destinations,” he added.
Osiyemi further disclosed that two separate commissioning events are scheduled for Thursday, April 9. The first, slated for 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., is the inauguration of the Tolu Schools Complex, which will affect traffic flow in the Olodi Apapa and Ajegunle areas.
“Motorists operating in these localities are strongly advised to plan alternative routes and allow additional time for their journeys during this period,” he stated.
Later in the day, another event will be held between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. around Victoria Island, including the Eko Hotel axis, where increased traffic congestion is expected.
“Motorists in the Victoria Island corridor are advised to avoid the area during these hours or exercise caution and expect potential delays,” the commissioner warned.
To mitigate the impact of the closures, Osiyemi said officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and other traffic enforcement agencies would be deployed to strategic locations to manage vehicular movement and assist road users.
He called on the public to cooperate with traffic officials and adhere strictly to directives to ensure smooth traffic flow.
“The public is urged to cooperate fully with traffic management personnel and observe all instructions to facilitate the smooth movement of vehicles along the affected corridors,” he said.
The Lagos State Government also appealed for patience and understanding from residents, noting that the temporary inconveniences are necessary to successfully deliver key infrastructure projects aimed at improving transportation and public services in the state.
