Kompany Rejects World Cup Pundit Role

FC Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has turned down multiple offers to work as a television pundit during the upcoming World Cup, insisting he would rather use the period to rest and spend time with his family.

Interest in the Belgian coach reportedly came from several English broadcasters ahead of the tournament set to be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico. However, Kompany made it clear he had no intention of taking up the role.

“No chance, no chance,” he said, cutting in before a question referencing the report was even completed.

“What am I supposed to do, work as a TV pundit on holiday? I won’t have a family left in Munich next year,” said the coach while he appeared in a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s cup semi-final against Bayer Leverkusen.

He doubled down on the stance in a lighter tone, adding: “Why should I work as a TV pundit while I’m on holiday? Then I won’t have a family left in Munich next year,” a remark that drew laughter during the press conference.

According to reports by journalist Mike and Keegan, the interest from English media was largely driven by Kompany’s insight into England striker Harry Kane, whom he manages at Bayern. Despite his previous punditry roles with major networks, the former defender has opted against combining work with his break after a demanding campaign.

Fresh from securing their 35th Bundesliga title, Bayern now shift focus to the DFB-Pokal, where they face Bayer Leverkusen in a crucial semi-final. Victory would send the German giants into their first final since 2020.

Kompany, however, must navigate the fixture without key players Serge Gnabry, Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof, all sidelined through injury.

Attention is now on Jamal Musiala, who is working his way back to peak condition after a lengthy spell out. Kompany expressed optimism about the midfielder’s progress, noting that he is “in good form” and “very close to his best level.”

Looking ahead, Bayern also have their sights set on a heavyweight UEFA Champions League semi-final class against Paris Saint-Germain, scheduled for April 28 and May 6. With Gnabry unavailable, Musiala is expected to play a central role once again, having already made a decisive impact in the quarter-final against Real Madrid.

In that tie, the young star changed the game as a substitute, drawing a booking from Eduardo Camavinga with a dazzling run before setting up a late equaliser that helped Bayern seal progression.
