JUST IN: Peter Obi, Kwankwaso Meet NDC Leaders In Abuja

Olayiwola Matthew

Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso on Sunday held a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The meeting took place at the Abuja residence of Seriake Dickson, the national leader of the party.

Both leaders arrived in the evening to a gathering of supporters, further fuelling speculation about a possible coalition.

The development comes amid increasing uncertainty within the opposition space, particularly following Obi’s recent exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he cited internal crises, division, and persistent legal battles.

Kwankwaso has also maintained that he is yet to formally declare any presidential ambition, despite growing speculation linking him to a joint ticket with Obi.

However, he confirmed that consultations are ongoing with various political groups, including the NDC, as stakeholders explore viable platforms ahead of the elections.

Sources familiar with the meeting said discussions centred on building a unified opposition front capable of challenging the ruling party, with the NDC emerging as a potential rallying platform.

The talks follow earlier hints by political actors that a new coalition or platform could soon be unveiled, as opposition leaders seek to consolidate influence outside existing party structures.

With internal disputes weakening established parties like the ADC, the emergence of alternative platforms such as the NDC signals a strategic shift by key political figures aiming to reposition themselves ahead of 2027.
