The Kano State Hisbah Board has prohibited all types of sports betting in the state.
Dr. Mujaheed Aminuddeen, the Deputy Commander-General of the board, announced this during a press conference regarding Hisbah’s renewed efforts to combat immorality.
He mentioned that the Hisbah has re-initiated ‘operation flush out immorality,’ and its operatives will soon take action against individuals and groups that threaten social order in the state.
In its mission to restore discipline and decorum, the Hisbah will detain any landlord who leases property to unidentified individuals, especially given the rise in residential properties being used as lodges and motels in the city.
He indicated that the board has also issued new guidelines concerning courtship, stating that no prospective couples will be permitted to sit in tinted vehicles during courtship, particularly at night.
He emphasized that while the law prohibits street begging, female beggars who remain outdoors late into the night will also face arrest.
Dr. Mujaheed expressed concern over the rising incidence of prostitution among young women and warned that any woman found in a tricycle after 10 p.m. would likewise be apprehended.
He cautioned the public against breaking any of these regulations, which would incur severe penalties.
He urged parents to monitor their children, particularly their daughters, and prevent them from engaging in any behavior that could lead to a violation of these rules as outlined throughout the state.
In June, the board also prohibited male Disc Jockeys (DJs) from performing at female-centric events in the state.
The board asserted that this decision was essential to prevent the mixing of males and females during events and clarified that women would now be permitted to officiate at women’s gatherings.
“As an Islamic state, it is unacceptable for us to allow the indiscriminate mixing of males and females at the same event. This practice can promote and propagate immorality,” stated the Hisbah.
