God Told Me My Firstborn Will Die If I Leave RCCG — Pastor Adeboye

Deborah Akinyosoye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has shared a profound personal revelation, stating that God directly warned him that his firstborn would die should he ever depart from the RCCG.

Daddy GO, as Pastor Adeboye is fondly called, made the disclosure was made during the June edition of the Holy Ghost Service, themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” held on the midnight of Saturday, June 7, at the Redemption City of God.

Pastor Adeboye’s testimony came as he addressed the congregation on the critical importance of divine direction and spiritual consistency. His remarks followed a sermon delivered earlier by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye.

The General Overseer expressed concern over a trend he observes among many young Christians today, who frequently “move from one church to another, constantly identifying as first-timers in new congregations.”

He recounted his own experience upon becoming a born-again Christian, noting that at that time, “there were three major ministries that were making waves, and they were very good. There were different temptations to go from one to another.”

Despite the allure of these prominent ministries, Pastor Adeboye stated that God explicitly instructed him to remain within the RCCG.

“But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your first born will die,’” Adeboye revealed. At that period, the RCCG was relatively obscure, with its headquarters located in a small building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

Even as a university lecturer, Adeboye recalled God’s instruction for him to submit to the leadership of his spiritual father, who, despite having no formal education, was the divinely appointed leader.

“I was a lecturer in the university. My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school, not even primary. But God said this is where you will stay,” he added.

Pastor Adeboye urged the congregation, particularly the youth, to earnestly seek and steadfastly remain in the place God has ordained for them. “Discover where God wants you to stay and stay there,” he advised.

He quickly clarified, however, that his statement was not intended as a declaration of superiority of the RCCG over other Christian denominations. “I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” he affirmed.
