In a move to rescue seven farmers kidnapped by gunmen at Itaogbolu in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, three operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency otherwise known as Amotekun Corps, on Wednesday sustained injuries during a gun duel with kidnappers.

This was disclosed by the Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji, who said the operatives were shot by the kidnappers having discovered they were being followed by the Amotekun Corps officers.

According to him, he and his men had been on the trail of the kidnappers since Saturday when it was reported that seven farmers were abducted by gunmen on the farm.

He disclosed that the injured officers are currently receiving medical attention in an undisclosed hospital, assuring the people of the state that he didn’t lose any of his men.

Sources disclosed that the abducted farmers were harvesting palm fruits on Saturday when the gunmen struck.

The gunmen on the following day contacted the families the farmers demanding N100 million for their release.

Adeleye said: “We are on their hot trail and will not stop until the victims are released. We camp in the bush and that’s where we sleep.

“By God’s grace, we will secure the victims’ release.”
