Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the invitation of the publisher of CrossRiverWatch, Agba Jalingo by the Nigeria Police Force.
In a post he made on his Facebook page on Wednesday, the Sahara Reporters publisher claimed that the invitation is an attempt by the police to silence dissenting voices.
Sowore shared two letters from the police to invite Jalingo and a content creator, Isaac Show.
While Jalingo was asked to report at the Nigeria Police Force national Cybercrime Centre in Abuja by July 28, 2025, Show was invited to meet with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
The separate letters were dated July 21, 2025.
Reacting, Sowore described the invitations as harassment by the law enforcers.
He wrote, “The Nigeria Police Force continues its reprehensible pattern of harassment, targeting journalists, activists, and everyday Nigerians who dare to exercise their constitutional right to free speech.
“This morning, I received disturbing reports of fresh intimidation letters sent to Agba Jalingo, a renowned activist-journalist, and @Isaac Show, a content creator known for speaking truth to power over a video of Abel Damina he reposted without commentary. These actions, rooted in the abuse of the Cybercrime Act, are designed to silence dissent and criminalize free expression.
“I strongly condemn these acts of harassment.
“Let it be known to the police authorities and their collaborators in tyranny, Nigerians will not be silenced. We will continue to resist every attempt to turn Nigeria to a Police State.”
