Journalists in the nation have been tasked to remain undaunted in exposing the rots in the society and holding government responsible and accountable to the citizenry.

Aare Afe Babalola(SAN), founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti(ABUAD), stated this while receiving the leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Ekiti State Council in his office in Ado-Ekiti.
He stated that the media is a veritable tool to fight corruption in the country, particularly in protecting the masses in the face of economic downturn.
Tasking further the NUJ leadership, which paid him a courtesy visit, the legal luminary said media profession is the most powerful weapon to sensitise, advise and make suggestions to the government.
Against the backdrop that most media houses in the country are owned by politicians, the elder statesman admonished journalists, saying “Don’t lie when you publish. Tell the truth which in Law is a justification for libel.
“In this present day Nigeria, every new day brings additional problem, a day forward and a day backward which has been the problem of the country for quite a while.”
In his address, the NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, commended the legal icon for moulding ABUAD as a global brand.
He, therefore, congratulated the founder and visitor of the varsity on the recent ranking of the Institution as outstanding university in the world, attributing the feat to the selflessness, diligence and discipline of the founder.
Babatuyi sought the assistance of the legal luminary in building an Ultramodern Press Centre.
General Manager of Progress FM, Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Adebola Agbaje appreciated elder statesman for the warm reception given to the members of the pen profession, describing him as a father of all journalists.
