No fewer than 150 suspected bandits have reportedly drowned after a boat conveying them capsized in Sabon Gida area of Sokoto State.

According to a counter-insurgency report, the incident occurred on Saturday evening when the vessel, said to be carrying a large number of armed men, overturned while attempting to cross a water body in the area.

Sources indicated that the occupants were travelling in large numbers when the boat suddenly capsized, throwing everyone onboard into the water.

A source said that many of them could not swim, leading to heavy casualties.

Early reports suggested that none of the occupants survived the incident although there has been no official confirmation yet from security agencies regarding the exact number of casualties.
