Some youths, under the aegis of Akure Youth Forum, have threatened to begin the process of recall of the lawmaker representing Akure South/Akure North federal constituency at House of Representatives, Hon. Derin Abiodun Adesida, for allegedly failing to perform in office.
In a press release signed by the leader of the group, James Adebowale, the youths said the moves for the recall of the lawmaker became necessary for allegedly failing to attract dividends of democracy to his constituents.
The group alleged that federal lawmaker has neither executed any meaningful projects nor empowered the youths and women in the constituency.
Among other allegations leveled against the lawmaker by the youths include abandonment of projects embarked upon by former lawmakers from the constituency.
They referred to the construction of a new town hall initiated by former lawmaker, Hon. Afe Olowookere as one of the abandoned projects.
The youths leader, Adebowale, explained that Akure youths and residents were empowered during the time the late Hon. Omolafe Adedayo represented the area,
They challenged Hon. Adesida to reel out his achievements in the last one year as the representative of the constituency in the green chamber.
The statement reads in parts: “It is time for Hon. Adesida to get set for his recall. We voted for him to give us good representation and not to abandon us and enrich himself, his family and some few people.
“We voted for him to bring dividends of democracy down to the people at the grassroots, but he has been quiet and there is nothing to point to as his achievement in the last one year.
“We have not seen or heard where our House of Representatives member empowers his people, but he has been fixing street lights at the front of his loyal supporters, his family, political families and friends’ houses.
“The constitution of the country empowers the people to recall any non-performing elected political officeholder, and we will soon regroup to sign his recall
“We are calling Hon. Adesida out to come out with his score card and what he has been able to do in the last one year at the National Assembly.
“We are giving him one month ultimatum to come out and tell the world what he has done for the people.”
However, one of the aides of the lawmaker described the youths group faceless.
He, therefore, said the lawmaker would not join issues with such unknown group.
Defending his boss on condition of anonymity, the aide to the lawmaker said his boss had surpassed all his predecessors’ records at the National Assembly.
He said: “They are faceless group, we’ll not want to join issues with them. But what they cannot deny is that Hon Adesida has done excellently well during his short period in the Assembly.
“He won’t abandon his constituents, not for any reason. He has put smiles on the faces of the people in his constituency and would do more, they just have to be patient with him.”
