Kris Asimonye, wife of comedian Bovi Ugboma, has opened up on why she retained her maiden name after their marriage.
Kris shared the reason in a post on her Instagram page, saying her husband advised her against changing her surname when they got married in 2009.
She wrote, “When I got married, my husband encouraged me not to change my last name. At the time, I did not fully understand why.
“Now that I’m building Kris Asimonye as a brand, I understand completely.”
Kris said she now appreciates the decision, noting that she has continued to grow her identity and personal brand with the name she was known by before marriage.
Bovi and Kris got married on September 19, 2009.
The couple have three children and has occasionally shared family moments with fans on social media.
Kris is an entrepreneur with interests in fashion and business.
In January 2022, she recounted how she survived a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and underwent surgery.
She later thanked her husband for supporting her through the period.
Bovi, who is from Benin City, Edo State, studied Theatre Arts at Delta State University. He rose to fame through stand-up comedy and has since expanded into film and television, making him one of the country’s popular comedians.
