Ahead of the measles immunization campaign beginning from October 5, 2024, the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund(UNICEF) on Thursday trained some media practitioners on HPV/Non Polio seplemental immunization integrated activities in Oyo town, Oyo State.
During the one-day seminar, the participants from Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Ekiti states were informed about the advantages in vaccinating children against measles, HPV/non polio virus with a view to eradicating the viruses in the country.
Tagged: “Media Orientation On HPV/Non Polio Supplemental Immunization Integrated Activities,” the Social and Behaviour Change Specialist, UNICEF, Aderonke AkinolaAkinwole, in her goodwill message, said the participants are the voice that represents the voiceless, which informed bringing them together for the agency to provide enough information to them on Human Papilloma Virus(HPV), which is still new, and Non-Polio viruses.
She, therefore, said the media practitioners are expected to disseminate the information they gather at the workshop to the people of within the reach of the various media outlets.
Emphasizing that there’s still more work to be done on vaccination campaign, AkinolaAkinwole said: “This meeting is to challenge ourselves on how we can put in place sustainable approach to see to the vaccination of the children against variants of polio viruses.
“Let’s synergise on the approaches of the health system and with the media, this will go along way in seeing to eradicating polio and other variants in our society.”
Likewise, Director, Press and Public Relations, (MOI) and Orientation), Oyo State, Mr. Rotimi Babalola explained that the seminar was to furthest strengtheni the relationship between the media and the UNICEF.
He also noted that the seminar was a platform for the UNICEF to solicit for the support of the media to create awareness for the people focusing on how to improve the knowledge, attitude and practices concerning the virus in our society to promote the vaccination.
Babalola explained that the seminar is to correct the myth or misconception surrounding some of the intervention offered by UNICEF.
