Chief Sunny Onuesoke, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former gubernatorial aspirant in Delta State, has urged leaders and politicians to embrace developmental politics as against partisan politics.
Chief Onuesoke emphasised the need to move away from politics driven by party affiliations and interests, and move towards a focus on national development.
He said leaders should give priority attention to national development, stressing the importance of addressing the country’s challenges, such as infrastructure development, economic growth, education, healthcare and poverty reduction.
He said; “We should give priority attention to developmental politics away from partisan politics if we must develop as nation,” he said.
“For Nigeria to develop, we must do away from politics driven by political party affiliations and interest, and move towards focus on national developmental politics anchored on addressing challenges of infrastructure, economic growth poverty alleviation, healthcare and quality education,” among others.
Chief Onuesoke called for collaboration and inclusivity in politics, saying collaborative approach, where leaders work across party lines and engage citizens in decision-making processes, should be enthroned in the nation’s politics firmament.
He said by focusing on developmental politics, leaders could reduce tensions and conflicts driven by party affiliations, noting that inclusive decision-making processes could lead to greater citizen-participation and ownership of development initiatives.
The former governorship aspirant and PDP stalwart said developmental politics could result in more effective governance if leaders prioritise the nation’s interests over party interests.
Chief Onuesoke charges leaders to shift from partisan to developmental politics in order to inspire leadership and confidence among the citizenry, noting that collaboration across party lines requires building trust and cooperation among the citizens and the political class, which can be challenging.
He noted that maintaining the momentum of developmental politics requires sustained commitment and effort from leaders and citizens.

He said by prioritising national development, collaboration and inclusivity, leaders could drive progress and improve governance.
