Vice President Kashim Shettima will head Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), scheduled to take place in New York, United States, from Monday, 22 September to Sunday, 28 September 2025.

According to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), the assignment followed a directive from President Bola Tinubu.

Shettima is billed to deliver Nigeria’s national statement on Wednesday, 24 September, between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (New York time).

He will also join other Heads of State and Government at a special climate event convened by the UN Secretary-General on the same day, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., where Nigeria is expected to announce its updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.

In addition, the Vice President will participate in a high-level roundtable of the Global Champions on Adequate and Affordable Housing, hosted by the President of Kenya, alongside a series of bilateral meetings.

Following the UNGA session, Shettima will travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for talks with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
