Outgoing President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), has explained the reason the association adopted digital stamp and seal for legal practitioners in the country.

He explained this at the unveiling ceremony at the NBA headquarters Abuja, on Monday.
Maikyau explained that the virtual stamp would help in checking fake lawyers and ensuring seamless preparation and filing of legal processes.
Expressing satisfaction in the impact of technology in the conduct of affairs of the association in it’s last election, the NBA President disclosed that the registration of lawyers for the forthcoming Annual General Conference of the association was done through electronic means without awarding the contract to a third party.
He said: “Registration for the 2024 Annual General Conference of this Association was done on the platform of the NBA.
“This is about pressing forward. It is a posture we must take in building our nation.
“By making our profession better, we are also moving the nation forward.”
The NBA President enjoined Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to adopt temate of the NBA election process.
He said: “I invite the INEC to come and understudy what we did to make the election seamless, with the electorates casting their ballot from the comfort of their homes.
“To a large extent, it reduced the cost of conducting an election.
“The INEC should really be thinking in that line. Maybe, we need to write to the National Assembly to make a legislation that will mandate the Commission to go this route.”
