The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Lawal Adebowale, has called on all officers and men of the Command to remain vigilant, professional, and responsive in view of credible intelligence regarding a planned nationwide protest by retired police officers under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), scheduled for Friday, 1st August, 2025.
He stated this on Thursday during the monthly briefing held at the Officers’ Mess, Akure.
The Commissioner of Police addressed and lectured officers of the Command on critical welfare matters, particularly the proactive steps already taken by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, to address pension-related concerns.
CP Adebowale went further to tell the officers that the IGP, in a bold and unprecedented move, has initiated the process for the withdrawal of the Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) by formally notifying the National Assembly and other relevant stakeholders to initiate legislative processes towards actualizing this transition.
This action follows years of agitation and is a clear indication of the IGP’s sincere commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired personnel of the Force. The CP therefore directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Unit Heads to organize sensitization lectures for both active and retired officers across their respective jurisdictions in order to cascade this development and prevent any miscommunication that could trigger unnecessary unrest.
In line with the IGP’s vision and mission of building a transparent, accountable, people-centered, and rule-of-law-compliant Police Force, CP Lawal reiterated that the current police leadership is focused on enhancing the well-being, dignity, and morale of all personnel.
The IGP, being a true welfarist, has continued to prioritize initiatives that uplift the lives of members of the Force both in and out of service.
As such, the Command strongly appeals to all retired police officers to remain calm and refrain from embarking on any protest, as their demands are being addressed at the highest national level. The IGP is doing everything within his power to ensure that all officers, serving or retired, are properly and justly cared for.
The Ondo State Police Command assures the general public of its unwavering commitment to peace, order, and the protection of all legitimate interests.
