Those who are planning to buy or sell votes during the November 16, 2024 off-circle gubernatorial election in Ondo State have been warned to shelve their plans as anti-graft agencies would be on ground to arrest them.
Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC) for Ondo State, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola handed down the warning on Saturday while addressing newsmen on the preparation of the commission for the election.
She said Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) is working with all security agencies in the country to curb all forms of election malpractices.
The REC disclosed that officials of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) and its sister agency, ICPC, would be moving from polling units to nother to prevent vote-buying during the poll.
Moreover, Mrs. Babalola disclosed that the commission has started distribution of non-sensitive election materials in the state.
According to her, this is to prevent delay in arrival of election materials and INEC officials at polling units on the election day.
The election materials had been distributed to all the 18 local government areas of the state under the protection of security agencies for safe keep.
The current total number of registered voters in the state is 2,053,061.
The REC told journalists at the Alagbaka, Akure office of the commission that “We are working closely with the relevant security agencies and stakeholders to ensure safe storage and timely distribution of these materials on the eve of election.”
