Former Deputy Governor and candidate of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has warned Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa against misuse of the state Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps during the election.
Ajayi cautioned the All Progressives Congress(APC) candidate noting that Amotekun Corps has never participated in any election in the state since it was created by the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration.
He described Amotekun Corps as a legacy of the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, warning Aiyedatiwa not to turn it to election rigging tool.
Ajayi handed down the warning while reacting to the state governor’s announcement of the State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, as the chairman of the coming election’s security Committee of APC.
He described the government’s move as “unprecedented , undemocratic and abuse of incumbency power to truncate and cause unmitigated crisis ahead of a divine arrangement designed to restore Ondo people’s lost freedom from poverty, insecurity and a failed regime of trial and error.”
Ajayi therefore appealed to the people to ignore every alleged provocative moves of the rulling party to make the environment volatile for a free, fair and credible election to hold.
He said: “The people are aware of the government’s plan to use thugs to destabilize the state and pave way for the rigging they have planned so much to execute.
“I appeal to our fathers and mothers in the state to talk to the governor to shelve his plan to launch violence on election day.
“No amount of intimidation or violence will stop the people from withdrawing the mandate they innocently gave the APC in the last election.”
