….PDP Slams Abiodun
….says Abiodun Prioritses Politics Over Responsible Governance
The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is appalled by the news of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s appointments of all the 236 wards youth leaders of his rudderless All Progressives Congress, APC across the state as “political assistants.”
For the avoidance of doubts, the PDP holds that the news of such political appointments, especially now, in the life of our dear state, by the governor is a clear testimony of Mr. Abiodun’s preference for playing politics over responsible governance. This is not governance. It is a brazen misuse of public funds for a dead and selfish political survival.
It is really troubling that these are kinds of considerations that are dear to Mr. Abiodun heart at a time when Ogun people are struggling under avoidable weight of economic hardship, when workers’ welfare is neglected, roads are in deplorable condition, and hospitals remain underfunded, the governor diverts state resources into servicing his 2027 ambitions of a Senate ticket and enthroning a successor.
To every discerning mind, this ill-conceived appointment is nothing but a senseless scheme to build a political militia around himself, the same way he deployed transport unions to threaten and suppress voters during the last 2023 gubernatorial election and the August 16th Remo Federal Constituency bye-election.
Obviously, Mr. Abiodun is not pretending about turning every election in Ogun State, under his insensitive watch, to a theater of warfare. A so-called performing governor must rely on undeniable and verifiable catalog of performance instead of deploying weapons of mass destruction to fuel an infantile political ambition.
Even more disturbing are widespread reports that these youth leaders are to be coarsed into diabolical oaths of allegiance to Abiodun and his chosen successor. Of course, this has been in circlation for some days despite the government’s feeble denial.
We, as strategic stakeholders in Ogun State, we wish to encourage the concerned youth leaders to rise above Abiodun’s Greek gifts. It is a dangerous bait orchestrated to pitch them against the common good of the state. Every genuine lover of Ogun State and her fortune must be courageous enough to remind Mr Abiodun and his gang of oath takers that the future of Ogun State is too precious to be mortgaged for crumbs from his failing government.
While the PDP is essentially not against reasonable consideration of political appointments of worthy individuals for political appointments, we counsel the APC youth leaders across the 236 wards of Ogun State not allow their energy and potentials to be hijacked for acts that would undermine democracy and put the state at risk because of Mr Abiodun’s despicable desperation. If not for manifest desperation to unleach terror, as usual, why did Mr. Abiodun has to wait for 6 uneventful years before members of the youth wing of his party are considered for political appointments? Mr. Abiodun can only deceive himself!
Instead of falling for the antics of an insensitive war monger, we enjoined every youth based organization and the general public to partner with the PDP, as we remain committed to building a state where public funds serve the people, not personal ambition. Ogun deserves a government of service, not a government of waste and fear.
