The two late goals from Waheed Adebayo gave Sunshine Stars needed victory and three vital points against visiting Katsina United in one of the match day 35 of the Nigeria Premier Football League at the Dipo Dina stadium, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State on Sunday.
The Owena Whales’ several efforts in the first half yielded no goal due to Katsina United’s classic display.
But striker Waheed Adebayo found the back of the net in the 86th minute which threw the stadium into loud ovation.
He got the brace in the extra time of the 93rd minute to seal the victory for Sunshine Stars.
The technical adviser of Sunshine Stars, Abubakar Bala said the team expected a hard fight from Katsina United and deployed workable tactics to match them.
He explained further that his team would approach all forthcoming games with discipline, determination and approach like a final to move up the table.
Waheed Adebayo, in his comment shortly after the match, expressed excitement for the brace describing it as a motivation for him and his team to keep fighting till the end of the season.
Ghanaian born goalkeeper Emma Offori who made some spectacular saves during the game attributed the improved performance between the defenders and the goalkeeping department to the coaching crew’s renewed determination.
Sunshine Stars will next face Shooting stars of Ibadan in a South-west derby at the Adamasingba stadium.
