Nigerian Afrofuji Star Destiny Boy Dies At 22

Nigerian Afrofuji star, Afeez Adesina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, has reportedly died at the age of 22.

The singer, known for blending traditional Fuji sounds with contemporary music, emerged as a teenage sensation, carving a niche for himself at a very young age.

He began his creative journey at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for veteran Fuji musician Pasuma. That early exposure to the Fuji music scene helped shape his musical identity and stage presence before he transitioned fully into recording music.

The singer gained national attention in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If. The song went viral on social media, earning him recognition and opening doors within the music industry.

Following the success of the cover, Destiny Boy released several Fuji-inspired versions of popular songs by artistes such as Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor, steadily expanding his fan base across Nigeria.

He later focused on original material, releasing songs including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey.

Reports of Destiny Boy’s death surfaced on social media on Sunday. His passing was confirmed by Bolisco, an associate of Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, who said the singer had been ill before his death. According to the account, the artiste reportedly died in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

As of the time of filing this report, Destiny Boy’s family and management had not issued an official statement.

However, videos circulating online show the singer’s body being transported in a vehicle and later arriving at his parents’ residence in Ayetoro, Ogun State.

Following the reports, Afropop singer Small Doctor reacted on his Instagram story, sharing a grieving emoji alongside a solemn song.
