Ondo State Police Command has promised the people of the state adequate security during the celebration of the nation’s Independence Day.
The state Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Peter Oladipo made the promise in a statement signed by the Spokesperson for the command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, a Superintendent of Police(SP) on Monday.
According to the statement, “The Police as part of the celebration will be on ground to commemorate this year’s anniversary with our usual laudable parade.
“The CP urges the good people of the state to continue to be patriotic and not join any organization or group that may want to disrupt the historical celebration of our dear nation.
“In view of the celebration, the Commissioner of Police has ordered that all security apparatus of the Police be activated to ensure the celebration is hitch free and no untoward incident is recorded.
“While wishing the good people of the state a Happy Independence, we enjoin Parents and guardians to warn their children/wards not to partake in any activity that can lead to the break down of law and Order in the State. The Command is committed to the protection of lives and property of all citizens as security apparatuses are activated to apprehend anyone that transgressed the law during the course of the celebration.”
Although the statement was silent on the proposed nationwide protest by some person on the Independence Day when Nigeria would 64 years as an independent sovereign nation.
The protest, according to some social activists, would be centred on socio-economic challenges in the federation.
