Emerging news platform, ‘News Connect Magazine’ marked its third year anniversary in special ways, with an award, a public lecture and publication of special edition to celebrate its teeming followers.
The event, which took place at First Molac Hotel, Akure, had as its theme, ‘Treachery Looting: Nigeria and the Cleavages of Corruption’. The Keynote address was delivered by Prof Isaac Aladegbola, Deputy Vice Chancellor Crawford University, and the guest lecturer was Prof Olukayode Arogundade, Former ASUU chairman, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti.
In his speech, Prof Aladegbola highlighted the issue of treasury looting, saying it gained prominence during former President Mohammadu Buhari’s first anniversary speech, where he listed the recovery of significant assets looted from nigeria’s treasury. He added that despite the then president’s promise of recovering the loots, nothing was done and looting is now a common sight in Nigeria democracy.
Also speaking as guest lecturer, Prof Olukayode Arogundade, Former ASUU chairman, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, highlighted how the electorates easily shift blames of the country’s failure to the politicians without considering who empowered the politicians. He’s of the opinion that though politicians make empty promises, the electorates should understand that the key to the political post is in their hands.
Another high point of the event is the award, which was presented to 20 individuals who have created niche for themselves in their chosen fields.
The awardees are Chief Mrs Christiana Olubunmi Orimisan Olayiwola, Bar.Dr. Sylvester Olumuyiwa Adu,Toluwalase Ogunbusuyi, HRM Oba Oluwafemu Joel Adeluwoye, the Asuada of Isuada Land, Otunba Yomi Akingbade, Apostle Olaniyan Perer, Mrs Mercy Odumakinde, Hon. Boluwaji Stephen, Comrade Tajudeen Olatunji Balogun, Dr Abel Olumuyiwa Alonge, Prophetess Temitope Owoeye(JP), Prophetess/Evangelist Toluwalase Adelegan(JP), Prophet/Evangelist Olalekan Sanusi(Omo Ologo), Kehinde Seun-Adetola, Dr. Sanmi Adebo, Adebayo Damilare Victor, Taiwo John Tawose, Arakunrin Oluwaseyi Ibiloye, Engr Adeniran Gbenga Isreal and Igbokwe Mabel.
Speaking at the event, the Publisher of News Connect Magazine, Taiwo Adebayo-Gold, described the Magazine as a brand in the media designed to give cutting-edge information to its readers.
“As News Connect Magazine mark its 3rd anniversary, we reiterate our commitment to shedding light on the issues that matter most to Nigerians. We will continue to provide a platform for constructive dialogue, promoting transparency, accountability and good governance” he added.
The event, which had local troupe from Adegbemile Cultural group welcoming guests, had the famous Supreme Ola Blesing on the band stand and anchored by the duo of Elijah Olasebikan, FIBAN Vice Chairman Ondo State chapter( MC Okanlawon) and Fisayomi Ajibola who moderated the lectures.
In attendance are creme de la creme in the society including politicians, entertainers, business mogul among others.
