NCAOOSCE Engages Stakeholders in Bayelsa to Tackle Out-of-School Children Challenge

By Awhawha Awhawha

As part of efforts to tackle the growing issue of out-of-school children, the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NCAOOSCE) has convened a strategic meeting with key stakeholders in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

Addressing participants at the meeting, Bayelsa State Team Leader of the Commission, Mr. Daniel Karamo, stated that the engagement was aimed at fostering collaboration and synergy among nongovernmental organizations and education-focused stakeholders.

He said the goal is to enhance efforts in community development and drive awareness on out-of-school children.

Mr. Karamo explained that the meeting was also focused on establishing partnerships to identify out-of-school children across communities, particularly in rural areas with limited access to formal education.

He revealed that a comprehensive mapping exercise is set to commence, targeting the identification and eventual enrollment of children, especially those aged 5 to 15—into government schools.

“Our target is to identify and enroll at least 27,000 out-of-school children across rural communities in Bayelsa by the end of July 2025,” Karamo stated, calling on all stakeholders to support the initiative.”

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Flint Williams, Coordinator of the Civil Society Action Coalition for Education for All (CSACEFA), urged participating organizations to be proactive in the task ahead, emphasizing the long-term benefits it holds for the state’s educational advancement.

Meanwhile, participants deployed to the eight local government areas of Bayelsa State pledged their commitment to carrying out the exercise effectively and ensuring every child is given a chance at education.
