The presidential ticket handed to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in the 2023 general elections has been described as a serious setback to the party.

This was the position of the National Chairman of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major at the party’s delegates mid-term convention held in Abuja over the weekend.
He said the choosing Kwankwaso as the party’s standard bearer has caused the party distractions and stifled the party’s growth.
Dr. Gilbert explained that Kwankwaso was given same opportunity given the current Kano State governor, Abah Yusuf but he burgled it.
Corroborating Gilbert, the National Secretary of the party, Comrade Oginni Olaposi, said Kwankwaso wanted to fraudulently ride on the platform of the party to become President without knowing the intricacies involved in party formation and operations.
Oginni said: “If the former Kano Governor thought it was easy, why did he not go and form his own political party and run for presidency. He got a party which welcomed him into its fold and he wanted to use the back door to destroy the party.”
He also condemned the attempt by the Kwankwaso faction to change the party’s logo with the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), which the convention rejected in totality.
However, at the Mid-Term Convention, the party retained the party’s founder, Boniface Aniebonam as the Board chairman.
It was also resolved and adopted the decision of the Board of Trustees to call to order the erring National Officers of the party and the dissolution of the NWC led by Mr. Ajuji and Mr. Dipo Olayokun as Acting National Chairman and National Secretary.
The communique reads: “The recommendations of the Fact Finding Committee(FFC) and the Conflict Resolution Committee (CRC) on the continuation of the six months suspension of Gov Abah Yusuf of Kano state and the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from the NNPP was unanimously affirmed.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC should as a matter of urgency update the record of the NNPP to reflect the emergence of the leadership of the National Working Committee led by Dr Agbo Gilbert Major as National Chairman and Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday as National Secretary.
“That the NNPP 2022 Constitution as amended remains sacrosanct with the flag and logo of the party.”
