Kanu’s Brother, Lawyer, 10 Others Remanded In Kuje Prison

Olayiwola Matthew

A magistrate court in Kuje, Abuja, has remanded Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, along with 10 others, in Kuje prison.

They were arrested for participating in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest on Monday in Abuja.

The police charged them with inciting disturbance and breach of public peace, allegedly disobeying a court order. Specifically, they’re accused of denying citizens freedom of movement, disrupting traffic flow, and chanting war songs while demanding Nnamdi Kanu’s release.

Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, Kanuta Kanu, disclosed this in a post on X, saying, “The magistrate seating in Kuje remanded Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel in Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, his youngest brother. This is a conspiracy from the executive, legislature and judiciary to frustrate Kanu’s trial on Thursday.”

Earlier, the Nigeria Police arraigned Ejimakor, Prince Emmanuel Kanu and 10 others following the protest in Abuja on Monday.

The court document to this effect was shared by former National Chairman of the Human Rights Commission of Nigeria, HRCN, Prof Chidi Odinkalu, via X on Tuesday.

The police charged them for inciting disturbance and breach of public peace in disobedience to a court order.

According to the document, the suspects were accused of denying other citizens the freedom of movement, disrupting free flow of traffic while chanting war songs and requesting for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

Recall that on Monday, Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, while fielding questions on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme said Ejimakor and Kanu’s brother, along others would be charged on Tuesday.

Hundeyin further stated that they arrested during the protest would be charged to court after investigation.
