IPOB Condemns NMA Report Certifying Kanu Fit For Trial

The Indigenous People of Biafra has rejected the Nigerian Medical Association’s report, which declared its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, fit to continue his trial, describing it as a “political script” allegedly orchestrated by the Attorney-General of the Federation.

In a statement on Thursday by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group accused the NMA of complicity and urged it to immediately clarify its role and disown what it termed a “forged report.”

Powerful said any document being paraded as a medical report on Kanu’s he’s health was “a fraud and a forgery,” urging the Federal High Court to disregard it and order a fresh, independent medical examination by a neutral, internationally recognised team.

He said, “The IPOB condemns in the strongest possible terms the judicial absurdity that played out today before Justice Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in the ongoing persecution of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. What transpired today was not justice, but a shameful display of executive manipulation dressed up as judicial reasoning.

Justice Omotosho, in a ruling that will go down as one of the darkest moments in Nigeria’s judicial history, relied on a phantom ‘medical report’ allegedly from the Nigerian Medical Association to declare Mazi Nnamdi Kanu fit to stand trial. Let it be made abundantly clear to the world: the NMA never examined Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“The so-called report was not a medical document but a political script concocted by the Attorney-General of the Federation, who arrogated to himself the powers of both a court and a physician.”

Following Kanu’s application to be transferred from the custody of the Department of State Services to the National Hospital for urgent medical attention, Justice Omotosho had ordered the NMA to conduct an examination on him and report back to the cour
