Former Chelsea forward Eden Hazard has revealed he recently told ex-teammate Cesc Fabregas that the “time has come” for him to return to Stamford Bridge, as he backed the Spaniard to become one of football’s top coaches.
Hazard and Fabregas played together at Chelsea between 2014 and 2019, winning five major trophies, including two Premier League titles.
Fabregas is now in management with Italian side Como, who currently sit sixth in the Serie A table. Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Hazard said he hopes to see the former midfielder return to Chelsea in a coaching role.
He said, “I’ll be honest. We talked a bit over the summer. I told him he was one of the best midfielders in history and that he’s destined to become one of the best coaches too. I explained that it was time for him to return to Chelsea, and he joked about it, but I really think so.
“He loves football, he knows everything about the game. I’m a Chelsea fan and I want the best for the club: that’s why I dream of seeing Cesc on the bench, while I’m in the stands, behind him, enjoying the show.”
Reflecting on the highlights of his own career, Hazard described Belgium’s third-place finish at the 2018 FIFA World Cup as one of his proudest moments. He also recalled special memories from club football, including his early encounters with Chelsea and his time at Real Madrid.
“Third place at the 2018 World Cup with Belgium was a success, I was in top form. Ours is a small nation, which treated that result as something amazing,” he said.
“I also cherish my first match against Chelsea, as well as everything I experienced with Real Madrid. I was unlucky in Spain, but playing at the Bernabeu was my dream since I was a child.”
