GWR: Governor Sanwo-olu Hosts 15-year-old Autistic Artist, Kanyeyachukwu In Lagos

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu on Thursday received the 15-year-old autistic artist and Guinness World Record holder Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke at his office in Lagos. The meeting also included representatives of the Kanyeyachukwu Autism Foundation, the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, and the Cycology Cycling Group.

Sanwoolu shared details of the meeting on his official Instagram page, highlighting the young artist’s achievements and the importance of inclusion. “Too often, we focus on what people cannot do. But when you look at Kanyeyachukwu’s work, you are reminded that ability comes in many forms,” the governor wrote.

He praised the artist as a “great example of what is possible when talent, determination, and community support come together.” Sanwoolu also acknowledged the efforts of organisations supporting inclusion, creativity, and positive role models, especially for young people navigating unique challenges.

“Our responsibility is to build a Lagos where there is genuine space for everyone to thrive, regardless of the challenges they began with. We remain committed to fostering a society that recognises ability, supports purpose, and creates opportunity for all,” the governor added.

Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, who was born in Canada in 2009 but is of Nigerian descent, began painting at the age of 4. He has since become known internationally for his large-scale artwork and commitment to promoting inclusion through art.

In 2025, Kanyeyachukwu set a Guinness World Record for the largest painting on canvas by an individual, a massive piece measuring 12,303.87 square metres, more than twice the size of a standard football field.

The work, titled Impossibility is a Myth, was unveiled on April 2, 2025, at Eagle Square in Abuja to coincide with World Autism Acceptance Day.

The project was designed to raise awareness about autism and support the Zeebah Foundation, an organisation focused on improving the lives of children with autism in Nigeria.

Guinness World Records have gained significant attention in Nigeria, with individuals striving to break records in fields ranging from food to sports to entertainment and creative arts.

At just 15, Kanyeyachukwu has achieved what many adults can only dream of, making his record more remarkable.
